I have a 2000 Johnson 50hp. Runs fine when it first comes off the trailer and go. After I stop to fish about 30-45 minutes and restart, it will take off then sputter and spit then die like it's out of gas. Before I restart I pump the bulb( which is empty ) and go again. Once the engine is hot it will run great until I stop to fish again and it cools off. Could this be the fuel pump(vro)?

my first guess would be the bulb. Sounds like the gas is siphoning back, past the check valves.

You can pick up a new bulb at Wallyworld for a couple of bucks

Good Luck
HAVE FUN!

I have a 2000 150hp Johnson. Started well. Ran like a scalded dog. Turned off to drift fish. After 10 min, started, but would not idle well. Had the "lean spit". If nailed it, would run great. Replaced VRO, not it. Replaced rectifier and power pack, not it. Replaced anti-siphon valve at the fuel tank and squeeze ball, not it. Turned out it WAS the main inlet fuel bowl cover. It was warped fron the factory. Suspect heat build-up under the engine compartment while drifting caused the cover to warp enough to cause the fuel system to suck air and spit and even cut off. Was a real bear to figure out. Your problem is similar. I have nice spare parts now. GOOD LUCK!

Remove the starter, and check the pulse hose to the VRO pump. The starter rubs a hole in the hose, you grind notch in starter after you replace the hose.
