2000 Johnson 60 HP No Water out sight tube

I installed a new water pump kit about a year ago. I noticed at that time it was slow about picking up water and pressure looked weaker than normal. Boat has been sitting for about 6 months and cranked it the other day and not pumping water. Have already checked tube for insect problem and it is clear all the way. What other reason would water not come out the sight tube? The impeller that came with the new kit looked a little beefy to me but guess that is ok.

Are you running on a hose ?-----Is the motor actually getting too hot ?----Factory kit with 6 vane impeller ?

Yes on the water hose. I don't run it long enough to get hot when I see it doesn't start water out the sight tube. I included a pic of the 6 vane impeller.

Test run in the lake.----Have to ask, ---is the drive key installed ?---What colour ?

The Kit I installed came with a Black Key and a White. I used the Black.

Put it back together. Pumping great now on water hose. Have to figure which way to turn shift rod . When I crank it in neutral position, the foot is in reverse. Have to ease forward on shifter to get into neutral. Looking down from top of motor, do I turn rod clockwise or counter-clockwise ?
