Recently acquired a Lowe 166SCX with this motor. What's the good bad and ugly of this 2-stroke twin? Should I pawn it off to a pontoon owner or is it an OK motor? Heard rumors about oil injection problems.

Those rumors you hard are from long long ago in a galaxy far far away. There were problems in their first few years, but that was back in the 80s. Just make sure no water gets in the oil tank. Don't let rainwater drown the tank by leaving the plug in. They should't be left to the elements. Rain can get in there without drowning the tank. Well maintained, they're reliable motors. Water in the oil tank is sure death. They sold tons of those things for a lot of years.

I owned a '95 Evinrude 40 (same motor) and it was absolutely a jem. Traded it last fall for a bigger engine.

I've had a 2000, 50 hp Johnson for a few years now with no complaints. It's not as smooth as the three cylinder 60 hp I just replaced it with, but it's a good running motor. 50 lbs lighter than the the 60.
