Hello here's the overview and what I've tried. Very interested to hear others opinions.
2000 Mercury 200 EFI - Serial: 0T104940
Motor for the most part is running fine. Had trouble getting up on plane a few times. Had to rock the boat left and right. Once up on plane, runs well. New spark plugs, new fuel filter, new lower unit oil. Plugs gapped correctly per manufacturers specs.
What I've tried:
Disconnecting the coil pack plug (not boot to plug) to see if the motor slows down. When I pull (one at a time) 1 and 5, it slows down. 2, 4 and 6 have no audible difference when disconnecting the plug to the coil pack. I swapped 1 with 3. When I pulled the plug, the motor didn't drop. Tried on a couple of other coil packs (2,4) with the same result.
Took to the mechanic today for diagnosis. He said he'll check the compression, firing sequence and so on. He said he felt that it would most likely be the high and low pressure fuel pump. He felt that because I had been putting regular gas (not ethanol free) the pump may have sludge or the pump itself could be bad.
Interested to hear any thoughts anyone else may have. The boat is also slower than it used to be - but so am I. Top end at 5500 RPM's is about 52 mph.
