Hello Guys!

Just bought this 2000 Chaparral 19.6 SSI196 with the following issue. Notice that the hose from monitor lube was disconnected. when looking at the outdrive the hose was disconnected too with just a plug and at the end. I want to ask to the gurus around here how hard could be to deal with this situation. I trace the line coming from the monitor and its goes al the way out thru the gimbal but cant see in the outside. Cant upload pics now but will go on soon

Thanks in advance.

So the hose is disconnected at the bottle and the transom assembly?

Could you also show a general photo of the plug you found along with where the hose seems to go all the way out thru the gimbal area.?...Just trying to get a better idea of where you stand right now.

Is this an Alpha stern drive model?

I have pictures of it but photobucket screw it all. Anyway, yes its diconnected from the reservoir, this hose is the one that feed the gears in the lower unit. Here are my serial number until I get a way to upload pics.

Engine - 4M31027N1
Transom - OL863177
Outdrive - 0L755795

the plastic plug is just connected to the remain hose in outdrive area just to "avoid" any leak but its like not working. will upload the pics soon

Ifound this 90 Degree fitting thats looks similar to the one in the transom

Wow, previous owner really F'ed this up. It's kind of looking to me that the motor and drive need to be removed so it can be fixed correctly.

Your serial number 0L755795 comes to be a Alpha Gen 2

I still wondering how this guy broke up this part, the worst thing was the plug on the hose, CMON!
But well I have the problem now But I can fix it, looks like maybe Can pull the fitting from the outside but yeah! needs to remove the eclip from the inside first....
Now the tricky and funny part is to reach the eclip

Hope can find a way to remove it without pulling out the outdrive, anyone?

AllDodge thanks for your fast and quick input

Really appretiate.

may need to remove the steering cylinder first to access the E clip and push it out the rear.It is possible to change the fitting without removing the drive ,
tight but possible. When I did it I put the hose on the new fitting first ,then installed the fitting and put the E clip on.just be gentle, its a plastic fitting

It seems the part described as the plug may be a broken in half part of the oil reservoir bulkhead fitting of the gimbal housing part number 22-861150T02 you found above that has fallen out. https://www.ebay.com/sch/sis.html?_n...g+22+861150t02

Perhaps the E-clip part is still in the gimbal housing area located inside the boat.....If so and that end you see where the big hose clamp is holding the "plug", I would really be worried if that end is not actually capped off properly....If the hose is free flowing to the stern drive end 'Then you will eventually push out all the oil inside the stern drive damaging the drive gears, etc. etc....So check that out carefully including the stern drive oil level.

Can you blow through the hose where it is disconnected from the oil bottle/reservoir down to the stern drive without restriction?...Can someone else on the outside of the boat hear/feel the air form you blowing from the reservoir side ?.

Does the hose barb fitting on the reservoir look broken to where you'd need a new reservoir as well?

You may have found this already but just in case here are the oil reservoir components for your drive model, http://www.mercruiserparts.com/bam/s...30862/2686/270

Your hose appears to be cut on the outside so may need that as well item # 7.

Below are a few older topics that may be helpful with this project too.
How to replace a mercruiser gearlube fitting kit?

****I want to get rid of that hose clamp, its look like can compromise the bellow, By now the oil level "has " to be fine, the boat has not been in the water yet. I notice this"fix" when changing the fluids.

Can you blow through the hose where it is disconnected from the oil bottle/reservoir down to the stern drive without restriction?...Can someone else on the outside of the boat hear/feel the air form you blowing from the reservoir side ?.

***Yes, I can blow from the end hose at oil reservoir without restriction

Does the hose barb fitting on the reservoir look broken to where you'd need a new reservoir as well?

****The oil reservoir looks brand new and the fitting barb looks just fine. At this point the part that is broken is the fitting....

Here is the fitting and the e-clip, only water hose was removed at this point, just the hose, but once removed there still a plastic elbow that can not be removed, Im think its coming from water pickup. I recommend to NOT messing with that plastic elbow, I didnt.
