Six months ago I started redecking my boat. I never thought it would take this long but it has. I am nearing completion and plan on taking a fishing trip to Grand Ilse La in two weeks. I plan on changing all of the fluids, and filters on Tuesday and then starting her up for the first time since march. I know that I should have drained the tank or atleast put fuel stabilizer in it, but i didnt. I got extremly busy with my last semester at LSU and I had to put my boat project on the backburner. I ran the boat on a weekly basis until I started this project. THe tank is about 1/4 full, and yes its plastic. My question is , do I need to drain the tank, or will putting octane booster and fresh gas in it be OK?

If this were my rig, I would install a water seperating fuel filter between the tank, and the fuel pump...top it off with 93 octane (to offset the octane loss you have surely had)...run it on muffs for at least 30 minutes...spin the filter off, and check for water...reinstall the filter element, and have a spare to use after the first decent run.

Skip the octane booster (I have never seen a test that proves that they work)...and get in the habit of using Sta-Bil Marine Ethanol additive at every fillup!

Here is a great article about fuel filters...be sure to read both PDF pages:

Happy boating!
