Just purchased an alumacraft magna 165cs. The boat has been in the shrink wrap and stored outdoors for 5 + years. What should I be concerned about as I try to bring this 75 hp motor back to life. I was told that this was a good running engine that was professionally put up for long term storage. 5 years seems like a long time and I would like to be a bit proactive and do the things that will better my chances for success.

Drain oil tank on motor, replace oil and fuel lines on engine, pull and rebuild carbs with new kits, replace water pump and lower gear oil, drain main fuel tank and replace line and bulb(OEM bulb only). Before turning over with starter, pull kill tether and squirt some 50:1 mix into each cylinder and carbs to rewet and lube crankcase internals.Add a lttle oil to main tank and should be good to go unless electrical problems....

If it was done right, it was fogged so it is going to smoke like a freight train for a little bit until the fogging oil gets cleared out. You may need to replace the spark plugs afterwards as well. Don't rev it up. Let it idle and let things get lubricated well first.

Thanks so much for the advice! As soon as the 2 feet of snow melts here I will start the process to awaken the engine. At some point I need to get the model and serial number of the engine, all I know is that it is a 2000 mercury 75 HP. Not sure about things like carburetors, fuel or oil injection. I would like to order a service manual so maybe this weekend I will trudge through the snow and stick my head up under the shrink wrap and see if I can locate the engine tag. I did find a free service manual for the earlier model 2 cycles on-line, but not sure if its relevant to this engine. Thanks again and I will keep you posted with my progress.
