There are all kinds of outboard oils available these days. What is the best, or recommended, for the 2000 model 225hp Mercury EFI?

Also I think there is a Champion sprk plug listed for this motor. Is there a better plug or what should be used for this moter for best results.

Thanks!!!

Re: 2000 model 225hp EFI questions

I have twin 250 efi's 2003 model i use quicksilver premium plus its a little pricey, but just a piece of mind for me knowing i didnt skimp on oil. Also i use the champion plugs, i think the part # is like ql-77 or somethin like that. Both motors have almost 700 hrs on them and never missed a beat. Main thing is to keep your fuel clean with a good fuel/water seperator & change once a season. Just my opinion.

The recommended oil is Merc Premium blended. Penzoil blended synthetic is good too. The only Mercs that require anything really special are the Optimax's because of the direct injection.

I'm not fully onboard with full synthetics yet but some say they're fine and definitely seem to help with smoke.

Thanks for your input. The reason I asked about the oil is that i had heard there was a special oil for the Optimax and I wasn't sure if it applied to the EFI as well.

Currently the motor has NGK plugs but noticed that there was a sticker on motor with a champion plug listed.

Its encouraging to hear you have 700 hours on those motors. Wow

Run the NGK's.

The EFI's are nutting but electronic carb's. It's not true injection in the purest sense. It works the same as GM's throttle body injection, in fact that's exactly what it is. The Optimax DFI's are true injection.

Not even close as GM uses 2 injectors and Mercury EFI uses 6 injectors, this is a 3.0 liter engine and this year model uses Champion QL77J4C plugs. If it was a early 1999 I would stay away as some electrical (coils) are NLA and you have to buy update kits.($125 x6=$750.00)
