I'm just finishing up on rigging this motor and noticed that all 4 carbs have a threaded screw missing on the port side of the top of the carb, the top two are adjustable with the open hole next to adjustment screw and the bottom two are fixed non adjustment with the open hole.

Are these supposed to be open??

cheers....

So? yes their supposed to be open? they don't have carbs cause it fuel injected? they sure look like carbs and float bowls to me.

I'm confused.

Are you sure it is a opimax, I have a 1997 4 cylinder with carbs 4 of them with threaded screws missing on the motor. This engine if it is the same as mine runs on 2 cylinders below 1800 rpm after that it goes onto 4 cylinders hence 2+2 !

yes sounds identical except this is a 2000, saltwater, thought it was an optimax though. So are the carb holes vents?

(I don't know what led me to think it was an optimax)

good advice Faztbullet, I will ;)

I wanted to go boating with last motor as well but the previous owner had the plug wires mixed up, so when I get a used motor I go through everything and look for anomalies and those holes are foreign to me.

I'm going boating now!! ;)-

OK,
so far I have gotten "go boating" and "their supposed to be like that", but no-one has said what their purpose is. I have looked at the carb diagram in boatinfo and it shows the holes but not their purpose, any experts out their??

cheers, :)

Ok simple explanation. You have 2+2 motor and motor only runs on upper carbs till you reach about 1200-1400rpm and then the bottom two come in. Bottoms don't need adjustment screws.

yes I understand that part but there are open holes beside the two adjustable upper carbs (needle) and the fixed bottom carbs as well.
