I just purchased a 2001 fourwinns horizon 230.
when I looked at the boat we started the engine, I put it in gear and when I went to put it back in neutral it wouldn't move. the guy I bought it from messed with it and it went back to the neutral position. but it was just the control that moved back not the actual gear/cable.. it was stuck in forward gear. found that out when I started the boat in the water for the first time! HAHA! there is a clip behind controls that hold the outer casing of the shift cable. when I move the control the whole cable moves through it. I wedged a piece of wood between the side of boat and the clipto hold it. it will work fine and then it will get stiff and bind up. I'm gonna replace the cable but I need the clip. can I buy that clip? I cannot seem to find it online or the controls. I cannot even remove the control from the boat. any help appreciated!

Your control is an old OMC control left over from the OMC/Volvo joint venture. When you switch to a new control, you will have to switch over the cables since yours have OMC ends at the control.

I switched over to the Volvo control from the very same one you have now.

This is the one I have. It was a Volvo control when I purchased it and Volvo now has a control that looks different so it looks like the company that sold it to Volvo sells it under their own name now.
