Hey-

I was recently replacing the power wires to both of my engines and noticed that the throttle cables were very badly "rotted" and exposed. I would like to replace them but am not completly sure how to go about detirmining what size I need. I know the length, but is the gage detirmined by the engines, or throttle? I have looked them up on this site and see that they carry the replacements, but I dont want to buy the wrong cables. And do I need one cable for forward, and one for reverse? Thank you for your help. Josh

You will need one cable for the throttle and one cable for shifting. Since you have twins, you should also note that they are probably different lengths. Mine were 2' longer on the port side. The cables vary in price due to quality. They are basically rated in flexibilty and the smaller the bend radius the cable can handle, the more expensive it will be. The aftermarket cables are usually cheaper, but i prefer to go with the OEM Yamaha cables for ease. I can just pull my old ones and run to the dealer and get replacements as they have them in stock. Make sure and tie a string or wire to the end of the old cable when you pull it out. That way you have a way to pull the new one into place.

Are you having any problems with this engine? Mine had the voltage reg explode and burn. Much wiring harness burned also.
Any hints about this motor? Maintenance? Recalls? Reliable used parts source?
Thanks
