2001 115 johnson gearcase removal ?

how do you get the shift shaft free under vro pump this is the worst i have seen. please help I need to be back in the water soon. It looks like there is a 1/4 20 bolt but that doesnt look like that will get the shaft loose to to drop the lower.

I believe that most of the 115 models for that year had a clip in the shift lever that you pull out on the starboard side, then you push the shift lever towards the port side to release the shift rod.

Give your model number if that is not correct.

my motor is similar and the book says to:

rotate the propeller and shift the grearcase into FORWARD

then remove the shift rod retaining pin( hitch pin)

then push the shift rod link towards the powerhead( towards port) to clear the shift rod


remember once you get the lower unit off...dont rotate the shift rod!!

Thank you so much this is better than most it was just hard to see what was going on and its alot better than the bigger ones that the bolt has to come out. You have been a great help and the pic helped alot too!!
