I have a 2001 115 4-stroke that stranded me.
It sputtered a couple of times at WOT and, after I stopped to fish (using my electric trolling motor), the Merc wouldn't start. It would idle and then die as soon as I put it into gear.
Luckily someone saw me and I got a tow back.
The next day it started fine and, once again at full throttle, it started to sputter and miss. Once I slowed down and stopped it wouldn't start again.
Back at shore I switched gas tanks (from built-in to cruise-a-day) and it didn't help.
It would start once in a while and when it would sputter and threaten to stop I'd give it a bit more throttle. This seemed to help for a bit. Eventually even that didn't work and the motor now refuses to even give a cough.
I always put stabilizers into my fuel and even added Star Tron.
The bulb seems to be quite firm (pumping it doesn't help) and I've emptied the fuel/water separator.
This might be just a coincidence, but while the engine was idling I grabbed the shift lever and adjusted the trim (in neutral) and the engine died.
Any answers?
