I am looking to purchase a 2001 23 ft cc hydra sport with 200 hp evinrude outboard I don't know if it is the ficht motor I read so much about. It has a white casing and test drove very well, a little high pitch noise, kinda tinny, but owner states it has about 150 - 200 hours on it and was recently tuned.
My question is what is the past performance on these motors and am I in for a boatload of headaches?
the local yamaha dealer told me to steer way clear of these babies , but I figured I'ld ask some impartial judges......Any comments; wise or otherwise; either on the boat or motor would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Mecoz54

If it's NOT a Ficht and has that many hours. I would not be afraid of it.

A dealer or tech can use a laptop or PDA and give you a printout of the total hours, any error codes in memory, and the percentage of time the engine has been operated at different rpms.

Like any used piece of machinery, have it checked out by a QUALIFIED person.

thanks for the advice guys, I've also come across a 23 ft Shamrock I/O and and we are taking a look, any past experience with this manufacturer? Appears to be very solid, anly a few years old, 350 efi mercruiser with a tunnel drive, (shaft tucked up under keel) is that the right term?.....enjoy reading the forums thanks again Mecoz

I've no personal experience with them, but I understand them to be a good, solid, HEAVY boat. I hear they design (and compromise) for fishing and multipurpose family boating with the same boat very well. You should really check out
http://www.fishtheclassic.net and http://www.fishtheclassic.net/forums

It's the Shamrock boat owners forum.
