I have a new-to-me 2001 200 carb engine that was just rigged on my boat. It replaces an old black max that had the oil injection removed and was running premix. I fired the new motor for the first time tonight. My neighbor jokingly asked where the smoke was. He was right. Little to no smoke. Don’t know whether to be concerned or happy. The old motor supplied mosquito control for the whole neighborhood when I started it. Thoughts?

The new motor still has the injector in tact? And it works? If so, little smoke at idle would be normal. When you remove the injector, and run 50:1, it smokes at idle... a lot. When the injector is in place and working, it runs closer to a 100:1 ratio at idle and increases with the rpm's, so if you were just running it on the hose at idle, wouldn't be a ton of smoke. Just make sure the oil system is in fact working on the new motor!!!

Mix oil in your fuel tank. until you confirm operation of oil injection system.

It was taken off the previous owner's boat in good running condition so he could upgrade to 250s. I was told everything was in working order. The oil tank was still half full as was the reserve tank. I have no reason to believe it was not working.

I understand it should be a much lower ratio and therefore should be less smoke, I just expected to see some. I would add that it was warm and humid while I was testing if that has any impact.

Other than looking for smoke, is there a way to verify that the pump is working?

Mix up a can of gas:eek:il 50:1 and run it as a remote tank. Fire up engine (running on the remote tank), disconnect the oil inj output hose see if it dripping oil.......Don't recall ounce per minute BUT there is a spec on how many'ish ounce's of eral should accumulate in the cup after a certain amount of time idling.
