Will go into reverse but just kinda grinds when I try to get it in to forward, tried adjusting the cable no change then I removed the cable from the motor linkage and tried by hand same result goes in reverse great but the lever on the motor bottoms out before it will engage fully just the grind/clicking sound. Is there another adjustment or is it a gear case problem? I have not removed anything from the lower end but the motor is new to the boat.

Thanks

Dexloy, sounds like a gearcase problem. The problem is the clutch dogs are worn out. Have you drained the fluid and looked for metallic in the fluid? Looks like it may be time to get that manual that you really really need.

Are you just barley shifting into forward? You need to shift gears in a rapid movement instead of lazily shifting. Also sounds like your gears are worn.
