A buddy bought a used 4 stroke that came on his new boat. After setting up for a couple months, it smoked like crazy for 10 mins or so. Once was warmed up, seems to run fine. What causes that? Can oil seep around rings/valves? He's not happy w/ it's performance compared to a 2 stroke, but the engine runs smooth and quite. He's looking to swap for a 2 stroke 25 hp if anybody is interested, assuming the smoking issue is normal.
