Are you sure that 8ga. wire isn't red/purple?<br />The purple looks like dark blue on some engines.<br />If so, that is the main hot wire for the system. It starts from the main circuit breaker, and does not go to the starter.

I think the red/blue is really supposed to be red/purple , battery voltage from the circuit breaker.

what happends when you cross jumper cables on battery on 3.0 mercruiser motors.then wont start.
