I purchased a 2002 Larson with a cracked block 4.3 in it. I am having a machine shop build me a new long block right now. All the water hoses look good but I am thinking of replacing them any ways. I will install a new water pump and fresh water impellor. I plan to replace the bellows on the drive also. Is there anything else I should look at replacing while reinstalling the engine?

Keith,
If it was me, I would probably pass on the water hoses unless the old engine got hot. These are the items I would be looking into:
- If yours has a ladder on the stern and has two panels covering up the transom, remove the starboard panel and inspect the bolts through the transom that secure the ladder. Look for any signs of past leakage.
Bilge area
- Check bilge pump, discharge hose and electrical connections
- Check all electrical connections to engine and clean if necessary
- Check and replace blower(s) as necessary
Lower Unit
- Vacuum/pressure test
- Change oil
- Check u-joints
- Check gimbal
- will need an alignment bar for re-installation
Engine
-Check belts
-Check/Replace Cap and Rotor
-Replace fuel filter
- Check for any rusting of oil pan
- If you run in salt water, you need to check the condition of the exhaust

I'm sure I've forgotten a few.

I dont believe the boat was ever run in saltwater since there is no rust on anything. The manifolds look brand new. I will check the bilge pump for sure. I am going with new belts, filters, cap, rotor, and wires. The ujoints and gimbal are in good shape.
