The main ram end cap is corroded and the dust seal has come loose. It looks bad but I haven't taken it apart yet. The problem is the end cap doesn't appear to be sold separate from the whole piston sub assembly which is almost $500. I mean the cap might cost $50 bucks and on the diagram it shows all the seals and the dust cap as parts you can buy BUT when you call the dealer they tell you that you can't take the cap off. Then why would they sell the seals that go in the cap, you have to get the piston off the shaft to get the seals in the cap. Anyone done this or have any idea if I can get a cap for this? I attached a pic of the cap to show the corrosion, the dust seal is at the top out of the picture, or whats left of it but it slides up the shaft when it's tilted.

Thanks, 5string

You can disassemble the piston assembly but Yamaha does not sell the cap separate from the assembly.

Thanks Capt Ken, I think when the time is right, I'll take it apart
and look at it. I saw an older model yamaha that had the
same exact dust seal but did show the cap as a part you can get,
I'm willing to bet since the seal is the same the cap will fit but I'll
look at it, maybe the cap is ok but I doubt it.

Most of the time they leak due to corrosion in the groove where the seal rides. It deforms the seal which is usually an oring that can be matched up and replaced.

Looking at the picture of mine, obviously the dust seal is gone but maybe on down where the o ring is it might be fine. That being said, I went back to the parts diagrams and if you look at the 2003 F75TLRB power trim, it shows that end cap as a part AND the o-ring, backup o-ring and dust seal are all the same part numbers as the 2001 tlrz. I think, unless the outside threads on the cap are different that it is the same cap.

Thanks for the help, 5string
