2001 90hp still giving me fits!!

I took the carbs off again, readjusted the floats, and double checked all the cleaning. Still cranks fine, idles good while running it in a tub in the driveway. I ran slowly up to 5000 rpm in neutral a few times, sounded good, then it started doing the same thing. If I throw the throttle down hard, it gets to 3500-4000 rpm and boggs down, smokes its butt off and stalls. Fires right back up, and continues to do the same thing. I have put new plugs and water seperator on it yesterday. Anybody have any suggestions as to what it could be before I go crazy!!??

sounds like a fuel restriction of some sort, have you checked all fuel lines and filters, have you checked fuel vent system. Do you have the cover on when this is happening, if so have you tried it with the cover off, maybe an exhaust leak probably a long shot but worth a look.

5000 rpm in a tub and in neutral is a recipe for a blown engine.
