I have a 2001 bayliner 175 3.0 merc with a 2.0 alpha 1 gen2 outdrive I am currently running a 23 pitch 3 blade aluminum prop and top out at 42 mph GPS 1/2 full of fuel me and wife on boat. Sorry dont have the rpm been working on tach and going to have to replace it. The boat is used for tubing, and wakeboarding mainly top speed is not important wanting to get on plane faster and hold plane at lower speed for wakeboarding. Am considering a 14" 21p 4 blade prop any thoughts would be great.

Re: 2001 bayliner prop?

Found below using Google search...

"We have a 2006 175 and run and recommend a SOLAS 4 blade aluminium 14.25 x 19. We pull wake boarders mostly and some of them are 100+ kg. No problem with hole shot and easier to hold on the plane. Big improvement over the standard 3 blade 23P. Wakeboarding generally best around 21-24 knots. Tried a few props but this seems to fit the bill for us. Regards tubing, most fun also to be had around 20-24 knots. No need for high end speed for tubes in fact too dangerous. You will find past threads on this subject. cheers........."

Re: 2001 bayliner prop?

If wanting to get on plane much faster, do investigate Smart Tabs SX. I have Smart Tabs SX on my Bayliner 1700 120 HP OP and they "up lift" the rear of the boat. Smoother ride, better fuel consumption (especial in 3800-4200 RPM range) and they eliminate porpoising motion as well. If wondering, my 1700 Bayliner came with factory aluminum 3-blade 21P. I use aluminum 3-blade 19P for long distance cruising. And, I use 4-blade 17P for tubing. For your stronger 3.0 motor, 19P (4-blade) + 21P (3-blade) sounds reasonable.

Hope this helps...

like Batman says,, get a 4 blade Solas,, I replaced a 3 blade Solas 21P 14.3 3 blade to a 4 blade 15p 14.75.. HUGE difference, hole shot with my 20ft cuddy on plane with 5 adults in less than 10 seconds,, get a 4 blade!! you will lose a few MHP, but gain huge hole shot,,, goodl luck
