I have a 2001 70 hp 4 cycle E70PL4SIA motor and the trim is leaking bad where the tank sits on the manifold assembly. See link below. I had all the seals replaced and it still leaked. The shop told me it most likely has a bad manifold which is causing to much back pressure in the tank and causing it to blow out around the seal. They want to replace the tank and manifold assembly with the new seals for $1150. I told them just to put the old parts back on the boat. It's still going to cost me around $150 to $200 for the labor and seals they put in. It's on a pontoon boat so I can get by without trim for a while.

I was wondering why would I have to replace both the tank and manifold assembly. Shouldn't the tank be fine if what they are saying is true? I'm not sure if I should try to put a new tank on first and then a new manifold, both at the same time or try to find a used Trim assembly that would work for that year motor.

The parts alone will cost around $700 - $750 if I buy them new and do it myself. Anyone else ever have this problem or have an other suggestions I might try first?

There is a service bulletin for this. Tells what parts to replace. Free if engine still in warranty. The bulletin/letter was for Suzuki, same engine.

Where do I find the service bulletin? ON the Suzuki site?

Its not on the Suzuki site that I know of. I think we only replaced the tank, item # 3 on your list, the material was changed. I just packed my books again, give me a fews days and I will see what I can find. I hope that this applys to your engine.

OK thanks. That tank at least only costs $100 versus the $500 to $600 for the other piece. :) I will wait and see what you find.

Just an update on this issue. I ordered a new tank and it was made of some type of metal composition versus plastic. Put it on and trim works like a charm. If anyone has this issue where the fluid leaks out where the tank and manifold come together and your tank is made of plastic, just order a new tank.
