I have a 2001 75hp Evinrude that has an intermediate problem. Sometimes the power tilt will just start running, always in the down motion. When it reaches the bottom, it continues to run. If I push the buttons several times I can sometimes make it stop. Is there a switch that could be faulty. Please help. E75FPLSIF

Thanks, Chris

That problem is usually caused by corrosion within the power tilt trim switch itself. To prove that possibility, simply disconnect the red voltage wire that connects to the switch.

Where would I find the Red wire. At the switch under the motor cover there is a 3 prong plug. Are you talking about the switch on the shift lever.
Thanks, Chris

You may have more than one PTT switch, I have no way of knowing if you have another at the bow of the boat and/or attached to the engine pan. If you have more than one switch, the following pertains to all of them.

You know which switch operates the PTT up or down. There are three wires attached to it..... RED, GREEN, and BLUE. Trace the wires from that switch back to its connector and disconnect the RED wire.

I disconnected the red wire and things seem to work fine. Is there anything else I should be looking out for. Thanks, Chris
