Hi all, well my 175 FICHT Evinrude has always run good . I have had throttle response issus for a little bit but she still ran ok. When I go to engage forward its some what hesitant, and then I throw her to full throttle and my engine seems to slowely increase in rpms then get up to a max of 4000 rpms. I have a Viper prop which I researched before with my eninge should be around 5500 rpms max at full throttle. The engine is on a 21' Cobia center console. I have had it in a shop they checked it over did a water test and said it was ok. But after going out today, she ran first ok still sluggish once you push up to full throttle, got up 4100 rpms and 32mph, but then after ridding around, once we stopped and tried restart she would start up but then soon as you go to forward it woudl shut off, tried over and over, and finally got into forward kinda waited and moved throttle forward and got her to increae rpms finally. I am about to just buy a new Honda 200 :) , but I would like to get this issue sorted out as I feel the motor runs strong, compression checks great, I have had the commmon ECU rebuilt. Thanks

Did the shop you had it to put their lap top on it and see if there were any codes? When's the the last time the plugs were replaced and indexed? Has a compression check been done? Is it running on all 6 cyls?

Hi, thanks for the response. Just serviced, plugs replaced etc service, compression checked good, running all 6 cylinders , has no codes. DFI did ecu rebuild last season. Seems like the throttle cables may be issue to me mixed with maybe TPS adjustment. Its just weird, you put it into forward then start moving throttle, nothing for a bit then you get some throttle , then go all the way it will go and she starts going slowely, then gets to about 4000 rpms finally once on plain and thats about it. I alos noticed a little bit of maybe fuel leaking out maybe around the area where the fuel water filter is on the motor. I dont think that would cause the slow throttle response though. I have the software and cable, but after DFI did the ecu rebuild I am not able to connect, I guess I need to get newer software.

What was max RPM back in time with same prop and setup?

Re: 2001 FICHT 175, trying to sort issues

Motor got up to 4500 rpm's max before , but did not hold long. Right now, just did compression test, 90lbs on every cylinder no difference on all 6. About 2 plugs are wet with oil. Starboard side throttle bodies all have oil in them, also notice a slight gasket leak from I guess fuel pump or lift pump? and also oil lift pump? on front of engine. All coils are firing, did notice two cylinders on port side with intermittent fire, but very slight, due to plug wires, they look original. I have no alarms, had DFI rebuild EMM and my software for 1997-2002 will not work, so I need to get the upgraded software. So any Evinrude techs here have any ideas, im a auto mechanic so doing the work is no problem, I just dont have a manual or software to start digging in deeper and become familiar with this engine just yet.

4500 is terrible ... your motor should be turning 5500 to 5600 RPM @ WOT. I would suggest getting the motor to good tech with Ficht and E-Tec experience, and get propped to turn 5500. Right now, you are way overpropped.

One dumb question I have to ask, is the tach accurate ??

Re: 2001 FICHT 175, trying to sort issues

Prop is Viper #174814, 14.5 X 19, supposd to be right prop and get 5500 rpm at WOT. Anyone know if that is not correct prop ? I would think this 175hp engine on 21' Center console should obtain more than 4000 rpm and 29mph ? When previously I was able to get 4200-4500 and 35+ mph, so I am hoping once bugs are worked out get 5500 rpm and 45 mph :)

I hope tach is correct, she felt great after computer was rebuilt, but still only got like 4200rpm, still was a little sluggish off start, but seems as though the sluggish part is getting more after sitting for season. I am trying ot figure out why starboard side throttle bodies have oil in all three. have about two plugs a little wet with oil/fuel. any experts able to chime in etc ? i am still awaiting getting a service manual and evinrude software to get my laptop hooked up again.

And to your comment of get it to a tech to get it servied, have not found anyone in my area, east NC, that is a expert on ficht , etecs yet to solve the issue. Took it to evinrude guys and spent good money , because I do not have time to trouble shoot for weeks, and wanted to get out fishing asap, seem boats mechanics are like car ones hard to find good ones to get the problems fixed and running like new again :)
