New to the board and new to Honda outboards. Just bought a boat with the honda 115hp outboard and this seems to be an excellent engine, but since I have always owned mercs., I wonder if there is any do's or don'ts with this engine. I am going to buy an owners manual so I will be able to read up on it and I was told to use 10w-30 Honda Outboard oil, but I have always used amsoil in everything at my house. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance

Re: 2001 Honda 115 4 stroke questions

I talked to a mechanic who said that most of the problems he was seeing was due to old fuel. These engines don't burn much and the fuel can get old before it's used up. He recommended buying less fuel and using Stabil to keep it fresh.

As with any engine, if they were run every day, you will see them run for thousands of hours. Engines that sit will not last as long. Probably due to condensation damaging the internal parts.
