I own a 2001 honda 8 hp 4-stroke ane when I am trolling along at low speed, motor shuts down. I tried turning up idle screw but maybe I have to go more with idle screw or is this normal for outboard?? Its only been used very few times!

Make sure the vent is open/vented on the fuel tank. There is a drain screw on the side of the carb, open it and drain the carb/fuel bowl.
I am not that familiar with the 8hp, I am assuming you are running a 3 gal remote tank. Check the connections for an air leak.
No it is not normal that it shuts down. It should put around all day. My 15hp runs all day w/o a problem.

I do have a 3 gallon tank, I will drain the carb/fuel bowl and go from there.

2001 Honda 8hp stalling out - O2 starvation?

2001 Honda 8hp stalling out - O2 starvation?

I have a Honda 8 hp. I thought my stalling issue was a fuel issue, but I took the cowling off today and ran it while on my mooring, it ran at full idle like a champ. Put the cowling back on and it acted like it wanted to stall - opened it back up and achieved full idle.

Anyone know how to get more air into the motor or what would cause my carb to suddenly be O2 staved?

Thanks!

Sounds like it has an exhaust leak. Look closely at the exhaust pipe below the power head.

We first need to determine if this is an 8a or 8d.Model # will tell the difference as will appearance. It could be either and they are entirely different engines with entirely different features.
