I decided to change my lower unit oil after a morning fishing trip. When I pulled the top fill screw out, it blasted me with a spray of oil and air, I would estimate it had 10 to 20 pounds of pressure built up inside it. It's never done this before, anyone know what would cause a lower unit to build up pressure like this? Thanks.

If the oil was black you could have a prob in the lower unit with something wearing building up excessive heat. Seen it happen before.

The oil looked a little milky, I wonder if the 97 degree sun baking on the unit may have created some steam... Thanks for your reply.

If the oil was milky I'd drain it and take it in to have it pressure and vacuumed checked. That way you'll be sure if it's leaking any place or not. Also, were the drain & vent gaskets in place?
