My 2001 Merc 200 carb model is stalling when I go from idle to mid range. The idle is fine up until 2000 RPM's then there is a dead spot all the way to 3000 RPM's and the engine will stall. I have tried using the enrichener when this bog happens but it doesn't seem to help. Running below 2000 and above 3000 or so and everything is great. The engine will run well up over 5400 RPM so I don't think it is a fuel pump issue. This is my trolling speed so I do need it to work. It did work earlier this summer.

I removed the carbs to see if there was any crud/debris inside the carbs. Everything looked clean. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance.

are you talking about a 20 horse, or a 200 HP v6?

Hi dan, you have to remove to back draft jets out of carbs , they cause lean condition, at 2000 & 3000 rpm.

Ed,

Earlier this summer the mid range was there. Something just happened recently to cause the problem. I was thinking it could be the off idle jets but I cannot find them.

I will remove the back draft jets as it is very easy to do. I'll let you know how it works this weekend. Thanks for your help.

Like ed says.

Check your link n sync. A timing vs throttle valve pickup mismatch could cause this.

hope it helps

Ed,

I removed the back draft jets, adjusted the linkage , and it runs smoother than when it was new. I ran it hard for about 15 minutes to see if any low pressure would develope in the fuel bowl and it did not. Next week I will go on a longer run but I do feel the problem has been fixed. Thanks again.
