At the end of last summer I bought a demo 2002 Smokercraft Stealth 162 with a 2001 Mercury 50 Hp 4 stroke. I finally received the owner's manual for the motor this week. It lists the service that should be done every year or 100 hours. In this list it shows:
-Check valve clearances.
-Check timing.
-Lube driveshaft splines.
-Check linkages for proper adjustment.
These items were listed as checks that should be performed at a qualified service center. I tend to service my vehicles and toys myself. Are these services doable by a do-it-yourselfer or do they require special tools and expertise? I was going to buy a factory service manual for the motor but if only a service technition should do the work I won't bother. What do you think?
Best regards,
RCS
