Ok, question for all you Merc Mechanics.

Are there any problems or concerns that I should know about, on a 2001 Merc 50 hp?

Recently acquired this motor and the only maintenance it has received is annual gear lube changes, and maybe fogging.

I will be performing the usual maintenance, but was wondering if there is anything I should be watching for?
Anything that needs a little extra attention, or a watchful eye?
Anything that has a tendency to get out of adjustment or fail prematurely?

Little sucker ought to be pretty bullet proof. Been building it since '94 for sure and I think back to '90. Beins it's a 3 cyl looper you should love your fuel economy. I'd just say (from experience) keep a little Sea Foam in the tank.

I keep a few cans of Seafoam on the kitchen table, just in case I need it.

Live it - Breath It - Drink It. d:) :^

One thing I noticed today, is the power trim unit is faded and looks real old.
I know it is original, but it is weathered or oxidized badly.

I wonder why?
It was not left in the water, and was stored inside a garage.

I've owned about 20 outboards, and worked on about 50, but I am not looking forward to doing any carb work on this motor.
