Yesterday I was out toodling around (800 RPM) and noticed that the oil pressure gauge had pegged at max - 82. Temp was normal, engine sounded normal. It normally reads around 40 at this speed. I brought it home immediately, shut it down. I turned the key and it pegged again. I took it out a few hours later, and the pressure was normal for 20 minutes or so, then it pegged. I've read some old forums, but I don't have access to a manual gauge and I can't get a replacement sending unit till tomorrow. Is it safe to boat a little today while the gauge reads normal?

Install a mechanical gauge to check. My guess is you could have a bad sender, or you have the signal wire chaffed and shorthing to ground
