Just got this off a customer for $150. he swapped a 4 stroke on his boat, knew I was building a boat and wanted to contribute.. I have not heard it run but it's never seen saltwater and I know it runs. It was on the back of his boat and in use until yesterday..

can I start it on a stand to fog it? controls are disconnected and he did cut the wires at the control. only 4 or so for the PTT anyway . I'm not sure why but $150 I won't complain.

no need to start it to fog.

jump starter to rotate, spray fogging oil.

however unless you plan on letting it sit for a long time, why bother.

will the lifting eye that I have for an old 650 work on this? I brought it home on a pallet and unloaded it with the tractor/ pallet forks. But need to put it on a stand. He just used straps around it which I can do as well but if the eye I have works, might as well use it.

I’d think fogging an engine like this isn’t such a big requirement really. If it’s been ran on decent 2 stroke oil...it likely won’t need it. Each to their opinion though.
To maybe add to this, with the mercruiser mpi inboards in reference to fogging for storage...the manual actually states to run 2 stroke oil through it before lay up. The 2 stroke being the medium for fogging. Don’t let it stress you.
If you still want to do it...just take the plugs out and spray some fogging oil in each bore and turn it over a couple of revolutions

just want to take care of it, that's all. I think I'll need new controls for it, as his are the built in type, and I've got plugs but no key switch ect. I have the controller
