I have a 2001 Mercury 150 EFI . It won,t stay running or start. 4 weeks ago I turned over the engine after winter and it started right up. I tried to start it today and it won,t start. The engine turns over but it did not start. I pulled the plugs and cleaned them and sprayed some starting fluid in each cylinder (I know thats a no-no). It started right up but then conked out after a minute or two. I repeated the process with the same result. I checked the sqeeze bulb and had gas coming from it. I don't know how to check electronic fuel injection engines other then to take it to a mechanic. Any Suggestions would be appreciated .THANKS

Do you hear the electric fuel pump when you turn key to "on"? If not the fuel pump is your problem, if you do hear it remove drain on bottom of VST tank and see if fuel is present, if not float is stuck inside VST tank not allowing it to fill.

Re: 2001 Mercury 150 EFI won't stay running

I noticed this problem and I was wondering if this was solved or if there is still a problem....I have 1 1996 150 EFI Mercury with very similar problems....It runs great and just randomly won't start back....I don't know where to begin to test it and can't afford a mechanic.... I took the boat home last week after it broke down on me....it started in the driveway..I took it to the lake ran it and it worked fine....did that a second time no problems...I take it out last night ran to my first fishing spot and it never started back..... No clue

opti-pop and EFI are INCREDIBLY different animals.
someone needs to seperate these threads.
start your own and dont hijack.
gets very confusing for everyone.
