Hi all,

i have a 2001 mercury 150 saltwater series that has been becoming more and more sluggish when accelerating. When I put it up to full throttle it doesn’t have the punch it did in the beginning of the season. It will start off sluggish and then suddenly it will get all of its power back and accelerate normally. I feel like there are a lot of things that could cause this so I’m looking for opinions on what to check first. Thanks!

Is the boat kept in the water, or placed on a trailer on non boating days?

Sound like stator is down a bank...does it suddenly get power around 1500-1800 RPM?

The boat is kept in the water with the engine lifted out of the water.. it seems like it’ll go “full throttle” around 3000 rpms and after about 10 seconds jump up to 5000 and regain its full power. Lastly, the control cables seem to be good.

Use an ignition tester and check for spark on all cylinders at idle. Report back.
