Hey Everyone,

So I bought a 21 Seaswirl Striper 2 months ago with a 2002, 150 hp 2 stroke Johnson engine. The engine had been running fine. The only problem I encountered was the the engine would not start right away. I woul doften have to crank it sveral times before the negine finally got started. However after that it would run and start back up just fine.

Last week I was out fishing and the engine died on me while idling. The engine would not start back up. I noticed that my voltage was low and ended up getting towed back. So I charged both of my batteries and she satred right up. However it would only stay running at a high rpm of 1000+. The minute i would put it back in idle the engine would stall, and would not start back up for 15-20 minutes later.

Does anyone know what could be happening and what I should do?

Lexus, You need to get an OEM Service manual and follow the ignition troubleshooting procedures. My '98 Johnny 150HP Carb'd version has the quickstart ignition system. This speeds up the motor when the engine is cold, and works in conjunction with the push to choke feature to ensure quick cold starts. It also keeps the motor from killing itself when overheating. If the temp sensors are lousy, the quickstart feature will work poorly or not at all.

i have an 87 i got recently and someone taught me to hold the key in to choke it for ten seconds before you try to start. if it doesnt hold it for 5 more then put in neutral and small amount of throttle. went from 1 min of total cranking to 10 seconds. good luck

you need to check your fuel lines also, new champion plugs always seem to help my idle

Post the model number of your outboard.

You need to get the factory service book, order it from the dealer.
If its a fischt you need software, cable and a laptop to read the onboard computer. Ebay for those.

I think you bought an engine which needs the usual maintainance , but its a fischt and they're not simple like the older engines.
It might need injectors cleaning, computer re-flashing or maybe just the sparkplugs needs indexing.
