2002 225 Evinrude Ficht / DI No start- intermittent

Help?!?

I have a 2002 225 Evinrude that I love and is great. Always starts so easy until recently. Now I have a intermittent no start condition.

I downloaded EMM and there are no fault codes. 625hrs on motor. Batteries strong and 1 is new. All new fuel filters and I can here fuel pump prime do its thing.

I notice when I get the no start condition that the Tach is dead. When it does start I see the Tach register the cranking RPM and the motor kicks over. This is the only tell I have been able to find. No check engine lights and no problems under way. I notice a subtle surge in the engine this year here and there and don't know if its related or just that awkward mid range throttle band you get with these motors.

Anyone got a clue? I have book and software and am at the ready!

CPS is gapped at .080

Little bushing on throttle body (that abuts cam follower) was busted up.

IN the engine monitoring mode...in a no start condition....I have no spark. Engine monitoring shows CPS as false...like it wont recognize...can this cause a no start?

If the CPS isn't working for some reason it will never start.

Bats are 800CCA 1000MCA and good

I am trying to get a new CPS in and gapped. Hoping its not the EMM

replaced CPS...gapped it at .060...problem seems to occur much less! I can still make it happen but I have to work at it. Running for now.
