2002 4.3 Mercruiser stalling

I just bought a 2002 sea ray 182 br with a 4.3 mercruiser in it. Out of the water it ran fine at high and low rpms. I put it in the water yesterday and it kept on stalling at idle? If you have any starting points or tips I would appreciate it. Thanks

What's this motor got for Induction,..??

Was it stalling as you put it in to gear?

Not really, just if I let it sit at idle for more then a few seconds.

Is this engine TKS or MPI?

What rpms does the boat idle at? If you set the idle on the trailer, it will idle too low when you put the boat in the water

I have the 2002 4.3 EFI and that had a problem stalling sometimes at idle when hot. I didn't find a specific cause, but when I replaced the distributor cap and rotor arm the problem went away. The old cap was looking worn, which is why I decided to replace it.
