2002 40 horse Evinrude

It is fuel injected and won't start after running and sitting in 80+ deg. temps in the summer. It starts fine in the morning and runs. When the outside temps get about 80 or so the sucker will not start unless I put in neutral and throttle it. It only happens when sitting in the hot sun after running.. I fish and this is getting to be a pain in the ...... What could be the problem?

After setting for how long?What is your exact restarting procedure?

Try to start 3 times.. Engine cranks but no gas. Hold neutral switch in and push throttle forward. Then crank.It starts.

Sorry I am new to this.. I try to start 3 times and then have to hold the neutral switch and push throttle forward. It starts. But this only happens in the summer time when the temps get above 80 and it sits in the sunshine.

4 stroke. fuel injected. electronic ignition

Well ,to be frank with you Jim ,4 stroke outboards are not my forte when it comes to troubleshooting.My best guess would be a thermo sensor issue or injector leakdown issue.Maybe a 4 stroke tech or guru will pipe in on this one.

Are you sure it's a 4 stroke? Were 4 strokes ever put out under the Evinrude name....in 2002? Are you sure it's not a Direct Injected Evinrude?

It has 4 spark plugs and is fuel injected. It says Evinrude but under the cowling I see several Suzuki parts. The owner's manuel says Evinrude also
