2002 5.7 mercruier runs hot

just installed new water pump ran it twice for a hour each time then all of a sudden got hot 220 put on hose it isnt pumpn water what should i check first?

Did you change the water pump on the engine or the one in the outdrive?

If you ran it AT ALL with no water going to the outdrive (either in water or connected to a hose) you most likely melted the impeller in the outdrive at a minimum.

I had the impellor replaced on engine. after i had problem turned off for half hour then started and drove 3min to dock

Check the impeller. Picking up a plastic bag over the intake has taken out a number of new impellers.

took out impeller it was damaged due to overtightend on one side also a aftermarket part. replaced with mercruiser impeller and new housing.
