First time post. Relatively new to boat ownership. Just looking for advice. Started fine until yesterday. Now the engine doesn't turn over. I think it's a starter problem but not sure. Battery is fine, power to everything. Where to start?????

Does the starter try to spin and just cant go fast enough to get the motor to crank? Does it not turn at all and just make a "click" when you turn the key? Have you tried jumping the solenoid to bypass the keyswitch?

90% of starter problems are bad connections. remove and clean both ends of the battery cables, so that they are shiney, also the cable from the solenoid to starter. check for nicks in the cables. and make sure the connectors are on the wire good. the cable tend to corrode from the inside out, if nicked, corroded wires, and connections, heat up and cause resistance to the follow of electricity, thus the starter doesn't get enough. you can also take jumper cable pos battery post to large post on starter. with a good connection, the engine should spin. then if the starter is good clean everything and retest. then trouble shoot solenoid. starters can be rebuit at a starter/alternator shop, much cheaper than a new one.

Sorry for the delayed response. Been very busy and the PC is the last thing I think about after working with them all day.
Good information. And yes, engine was in neutral. The starter seems to spin OK it sounds like it just isn't engaging the engine. Haven't done the solenoid bypass thing yet. I did just recently charge/clean the battery so don't think that's the problem. Checked connections and nothing has loosened. Is the starter easy to remove or does it take a little skill or experience? Thanks for your feedback, guys. Much appreciated.

I would keep it simple for a few seconds and just give it a good tap or two, maybe spray with pb blaster first...might just be stuck...happens. If it is and does come loose...needs to be removed and cleaned...any corrosion on engine AT ALL?
