Ive owned the boat for less than a season, but noticed a rainbow coming out of the back of the boat into the water which i assumed was a worn lower unit seal. I pulled it out this weekend and found the seal was fine. Instead Ive noticed a cloudy white trail coming out of the exhaust. It appears that there is a moderate leak of engine oil out of the exhaust port (Which explains how i went through oil so quickly). The leak happens continuously. My guess is a worn seal somewhere around the exhaust? maybe an oil cooler?

This is my first boat, but I'm a strong shade tree mechanic (owned 35+ vehicles in my 25 years of driving). Any tips of what to focus on?

You have a four stroke motor. Is it the engine oil level that you are losing or is it the lower unit oil. Whitish or milky lower unit lube is a sign of water intrusion into the gearcase. Bad seals are the issue. You cannot tell a good seal from a bad one unless you pressure/vacuum test the lower unit.

I popped the lower unit screw off the bottom and no water leaked out. Only blue oil. My assumption is that water would have sunk to the bottom if there were a leak there. The oil coming out of the exhaust is much higher than the lower unit oil. Its whitish milky directly out of the exhaust hole

Replacing lower engine seals on a 4 stroke outboard is not an easy / cheap fix.----Next step is to find a shop willing to take on that type of work.
