I just bought a 2002 carolina skiff 16 dlx. I need to know how much it weighs because I need a new axle for the trailer it came on and it looks a little too small for this boat. I called carolina skiff's headquarters in GA and they told me the boat by itself weighs only 575 lbs. I looked online and I'm getting numbers of 800-900 lbs for just the boat. I don't know who to believe, but I'm pretty sure it's heavier than 575lbs. It has a 25 hp honda tiller on it. I'm not sure if a 2000lb axle will be enough.

they are notoriously light boats--one of their best features--so why not trust the manufacturer?

A 2000# capacity axle is plenty for that boat.

I called a carolina skiff dealer and he looked it up and said it weighs 900 lbs. He said the manufacturer representative must have thought it was the J16 model.

The 2000 lb axle should be fine. I don't think you're gonna have 1100 lb of motor, fishing gear, cooler and other junk in that boat.

The axle was heavily rusted. I chipped off the loose rust. It still sounds pretty solid. The guy put new hubs, bearings, and wheels and tires but left the rusty axle. The springs and u bolts are rusty but also seem pretty good. I am debating on whether or not to just buy a new galvanized axle or if I am over analizing things. A new axle is only $110.
