Backed my boat into a gate and need a new prop....boat is mostly used for wake-boarding on a lake, and I can do with a bit more pop on takeoff. Running an aluminum 3-blade, 14.5"x19". Options please?

1) Performance issue you are trying to correct.

Faster pop onto a plane.

2) Current prop manufacturer, model, aluminum or stainless as a minimum.

Mercury 3-blade Aluminum, #48 832830A45 19P

3) Current prop diameter and pitch (required).

14.5"x19"

4) Wide open throttle RPM and speed with an average load (very helpful)

4600RPM/52mph/600-750lbs (including fuel)

5) Engine/drive make, model, year, and HP

Mercruiser 5.0L/Alpha One, 2002, 220hp.

6) Boat make model, year, length and weight

Maxum 1900SR, 2002, 19ft, 2760lbs

A 19p seems to be the perfect prop. Good top RPM, good speed, good overall numbers.

Faster planing times can be obtained with technique. Trim all the way down, passengers up front if possible. Bring trim up slowly.

Going down in pitch will cause an over-rev potential and definitely lower top speed.

Properly tuned automatic tabs or well operated manual hydraulic tabs would make a big difference with no prop change.

The 19 pitch is dead on. Try trim tabs.

Yep, I was afraid this thing is running really good with this prop, what about a stainless prop, any benefit? Same pitch on the stainless?

Then again, pretty sure I don't want to drop $450 on a SS prop...:(

If you go to stainless start with a 17 pitch and see how it performs. Go to a dealer where you can try the props before you buy. There are many different props and it may take several try's. Stainless has less flex and you might get better performance but it depends on what you want to do with the boat.

The 4 blade prop is reputed to provide a better hole shot.

My ski prop is a Solas aluminum 4 blade. It works well.

Or, if faster planing is all you're looking for, a Doel Fin hydrofoil will plane it off in half the time it takes now.
