Hello all, I just bought this 2002 Bayliner 195 and ran it on Sun. and Mon. My question is what rpm is the rev limiter suppose to come in effect? I have read that the WoT range is 4400-4800 but my limiter is kicking in around 3800 and 45mph. It has a 21p prop on it. If I went down to a 19p would that change anything? Or would the limiter still kick in. Thanks

Its pretty unlikely you going 45 MPH at 3800 RPM so i would guess the tack is reading LOW

Exactly what motor you have with # would make it easery to get info

Doesn't sound like a rev limiter problem to me, sounds more like an over propped boat. Only 3800 rpm but getting 45 MPH tells the story. You probably need to drop down to a 15 or 17" pitch prop. If you don't have the proper WOT rpm, you will shorten the life of your engine by running it overloaded.

I believe you need to check the accuracy of your tach. Connect a portable shop tach and see whats it says. You need to varify accuracy before changing anything.

ONLY the Thunderbolt V had the rev limiters installed. And I have yet to see one kick in early. Not even sure it's possible for it to malfunction like that.
No, your TB4 doesn't have one........

I didn't Think so,......
5200/5300rpms came Awlfully Easy when I turned the screws alittle Tooo Tight on the Torque-Shift 1 day........

I knew the T-Bolt V had the Knock Senser feature,....Wasn't aware of the Rev-Limiter though.....

Are those to only Real Added Features of the V, over the IV,..??.....

Since you have brand new gauges, I would sure check the make sure the tach is accurate before you get to involved in anthing else.
Is your engine MPI or Carbed?

Bondo, you could actually go into the ICM and pull the runtime history off of it with the proper diagnostic tool and proper software installed. Time at what ranges of rpm. Plus it had the rev limiter added. Not sure what all the changes and upgrades were for, but I will check to see what I can find and start a new post on it. We don't want to hijpack this thread for the TB5, cause he may not have it.

Re: 2002 Mercruiser 4.3 Alpha 1

You do have a Thunderbolt V Ignition system, and you rev limiter is NOT your problem. A simple test is to slowly increase engine rpm in NEUTRAL to over 4000 rpm. If it goes over 3800, then you don't have a rev limiter problem.

Re-read the previous replies about tachs and props.
