2002 mercury 90hp 2 stroke not charging!!!!

while the engine is running im taking it that the motor is not charging the battery. i have to take the battery out charge it up, then put it back in the boat for day. my electronics kill the battery. the guage reads lower and lower as the day goes on...

is this the rectifier or stator and how do i tell?
also is it ok to run the boat while i get money together to get this fixed?
is it hurting the motor? is it running right?
will it stay running when battery is dead like when i pull start it?
