Oh man I’m a bit confused with this really.
Im not certain, but I’ve not ever been aware of any 5.0 220 (as in carb engine) coming with a 1.47 ratio. It would maybe be far too highly geared for an engine like that. Even in a small boat, it would need a tiny pitch prop. And if the specs say the more powerful 5.0 mpi is a 1.6.....it just doesn’t make sense to me really.
Not sure what to think now. Someone that knows more than I will likely better advise. Seems strange to me.
All the best
Your tachometer should definitely not see 5500 ever with that engine. Makes me maybe think you should consider your tachometer as no good. That engine will physically limit at 5150 rpm.
You say it will limit and completely kill the engine ? Is this actually happening? I can limit my engine with the prop I have fitted just now...it does not completely kill the engine if you mean it cuts out. It just limits and cuts the ignition to prevent it revving further and also beeps an alarm on the dash.
