Thanks for any info anyone can give me!

Since there currently isn't a 30hp in their line-up I can't find any information on this motor. Is it a 3-cyl? Are these motors pretty strong for their rating? What is the weight for a long shaft tiller, manual start model?

The boat is rated for a 40hp tiller but if the weight saving is there it maybe worth it to go with a 30 hp. I do want all the performance I can get, but would the difference be insignificant or would I be sorry not going with the 40? The boat is a 15' Weldbilt .100 gauge mod-V jon boat.

Other motors I am looking at are
40hp 2-stroke johnson
40hp 2 or 4 stroke mercs
40hp 4 stroke yamaha
50hp Honda (is what I really want)

(All at iboats)

Thanks,
James

Hi, Jon Boater.

The '02 Yammy 30 2 stroke is a 3 cylinder, 496cc, oil injected looper with rope start.

It is listed in the 2002 catalog as short shaft only and weighs 132lb.

You don't mention the years of the other engines you are considering, but if you need a long (20") shaft the '02 Yammy 30hp 2 stroke is out.

Good luck. :)

Thats weard....iboats lists 2 of them one used and one new. Both 2002 and both 20" shafts. Missprint maybe?

That is very light weight though. I wounder if they actually are 20".

I have a 94 30 hp Short Shaft and it's an excellent motor. Oil Injection is nice, 3 cylinder is smooth. I couldn't have asked for a better motor.
I too had to make the decision between a 30 and 40. 16 ft boat, max rating of 40. The 30 pushes the boat really well.
I was told by JB that the difference would be minimal between the 30 and 40. Maybe a couple mph's.
I would somewhat rule out a 2 cylinder after having a 3 cylinder.
Dman
