I jumped on a deal today for a motor. It's a 2002 T9.9ELHA, I checked around and it seemed to be a good motor - and it's in basically mint condition. No scratches, nothing. He said he hasn't ran it in about 5 years, so doing the math it means it's like 3 years old or so. Said he used it a bunch during that short time, but that he literally just had it sitting here for years. I paid $800, but I sold my last Yammy for much more than I paid, so this motor really has only cost me $500 or so. I think I made out well. Just going to have to build up the transom a bit seeing as it's a long shaft.

Seeing as it's sat that long, is there something I should do before I even run it? He said he changed the lower unit oil right before he last used it, but should I change again? Should I run anything in a gas tank to clean it out? Very new to all this, so anything I can do to preserve this thing would be great.

I'm guessing I should change the oil out, change the lower oil and then see if it does a nice solid stream of water. If not, change impeller. Sound good?

I am going to change the oil on this motor before I do anything, even starting it. My question is that when I read the manual it said I have to replace the gasket on the screw after emptying the reservoir - I am guessing it's a one time use thing? Second, where do I get that small gasket? Maybe I am totally missing it, but I can't seem to find it. It says, "Put a new gasket on the oil drain screw." and in the picture box it has a part number: 001534. I checked online and can't seem to locate it. Again maybe I'm missing it. Anywhere I should look?

The gasket is metric o-ring. You should be able to find them at a napa or the like auto store. Just take the old one with you and match it up. You can order them from a Yamaha dealer put they are around 2 dollars a piece.

Maybe I am not explaining it correctly, so here is a picture. This is what my manual says for changing the oil. They are circled in red for illustration purposes. Any suggestions? Is this what you were referring to sacnho? Or do they not mean that what I circled and they mean something else? Or do they mean the filter itself and that seal that I have circled?

What exactly are the part numbers that I need to replace? Where is the best place to order them from? The site you gave boats.net?
