This motor runs like a top, but the alarm doesn't seem to be working. I bought it used, and I've run it for a year this way with no problems, but it would give me some peace of mind if I knew it had a working alarm. I've discovered that there is no alarm module on the motor, only in the quicksilver remote control. I tested the buzzer and I can get it to beep by applying 12v to it, so I don't suspect that a faulty buzzer is the culprit. I checked the tan/blue wire going from the low oil sensor and the temperature sensor all the way up to the buzzer, and all the connections look good. However, based on the troubleshooting suggestions in my manual I tried grounding both the temp sensor and the tan/blue lead to the engine block (while key is on) and the alarm won't beep.

Any suggestions on why it isn't working? Serial number of the motor starts with OT, if that helps.

Which end of the wire did you ground,. If you grounded the sensor end, it won't beep. You need to ground the wire that feeds the sensor.

yep, I grounded the end that feeds the sensor, and no alarm with key on. could this have anything to do with a bad ground, or purple (hot) wire, etc at the remote control end?

The only other thing I thought of is that the controls might not be the correct model? They are made by quicksilver, and the schematic shows them to be the same as a Mercury commander 2000 control with a beeper horn tucked up under the fast idle lever.
